SEO, AEO and GEO Expansion Engine
01 // THE BRIEF
A SaaS market leader was experiencing diminishing returns on paid search bidding, with customer acquisition costs soaring to $520 per closed-won deal. Their organic visibility was heavily dependent on brand search queries, while prospective buyers were shifting their search behaviors toward generative engines like Perplexity, ChatGPT Search, and Google AI Overviews.
Competitors were dominating organic category terms by deploying generic, low-quality blog posts. We identified an opportunity: instead of writing generic 1,500-word articles that AI bots summarize and discard, we would build a high-utility programmatic database of 4,200+ structured comparison matrices, integration blueprints, and troubleshooting calculators that generative search models are algorithmically compelled to cite.
02 // WHAT I DID
Structured Data & Schema Graph Mapping
Engineered a unified knowledge-graph schema mapping all product features, API endpoints, integrations, and competitor distinctions using deep nested JSON-LD schema (SoftwareApplication, FAQPage, and DefinedTerm). By defining strict entity relationships, we positioned the site as the primary authoritative ontology node in Google's Knowledge Graph and generative retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) vector embeddings.
4,200 High-Utility Comparison & Integration Pages
Constructed a programmatic content pipeline pulling verified performance metrics, feature matrices, and pricing data directly from structured JSON databases. Deployed pages as pre-rendered static HTML at Cloudflare edge locations, achieving sub-40ms Time to First Byte (TTFB) and perfect 100/100 Core Web Vitals scores across desktop and mobile crawlers.
Optimized for Perplexity, ChatGPT & Gemini Retrieval
Formatted primary answers into modular, factual, citation-dense blocks placed at the top of each page. Included clear statistical benchmarks, source timestamps, and bulleted pros/cons. When generative search engines synthesize queries like "What is the best alternative to [Competitor] for enterprise?", our structured tables and verified quotes became the #1 cited source in 74% of target evaluations.
03 // THE NUMBERS
| Metric | Before Strategy | After Strategy | Delta |
|---|---|---|---|
| Non-Brand Monthly Organic Visitors | 22,400 | 91,800 | +309.8% |
| AI Search Citations (Perplexity & ChatGPT) | 12 / mo | 480+ / mo | +3,900% |
| Organic Sales Qualified Leads (SQLs) | 34 / mo | 162 / mo | +376.5% |
| Blended Inbound Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC) | $520 | $175 | -66.3% |
| Indexed Landing Pages Generating Traffic | 120 | 3,840 | +3,100% |
04 // WHAT I WOULD DO DIFFERENTLY
In the initial rollout, we published 2,000 programmatic comparison pages simultaneously, which triggered a 3-week Google indexing quarantine where crawl budgets were constrained. Moving forward, I always stage programmatic rollouts in tranches of 250 to 500 pages per sprint while building authoritative internal cross-linking clusters to ensure instantaneous indexation.
